Multi-storey: alternative sustainable forms

At a recent seminar presented by Richard Jackson plc Mike Miller, Director identified that concrete had become the preferred structural form in medium rise residential developments, whilst Stephen Staines, Director talked on timber the most intrinsically sustainable of building materials.

Ken Wallace, Engineering Director confirmed that steel frame is predominate in commercial buildings, although has failed to compete with concrete in the multi storey residential arena. Giovanni Festa from IBS discussed the trade off between capital expenditure, embedded energy and running costs of a building.
